Organization for the Promotion and Advancement
of Small Telephone Companies
OPASTCO is a national trade association representing more than 550
small, independently owned local exchange carriers (LECs) and their
affiliate telecommunications companies. Primarily serving rural
areas of the United States and Canada, these commercial telephone
companies and cooperatives range in size from fewer than 100 to as
many as 100,000 access lines and collectively serve more than 2.5
million customers. OPASTCO has been a part of the independent
telephone company success story for the past 40 years. OPASTCO
provides a voice for its members to legislators, regulators and
courts. Educational programs and conventions foster a sharing of
knowledge and expertise among the members. OPASTCO's publications
keep members informed of critical issues that affect their futures.
The association also has a nonprofit foundation, the Foundation for
Rural Education and Development.
